Dura mater:
outermost layer of the meninges
It has some specialisations
falx cerebri
separates your 2 cerebral hemisphere
lies within the superior sagittal sulcus
falx cerebelli
teeny tiny
goes in between the cerebellar hemisphere
really hard to see
tentorium cerebelli
perpendicular to the falx
= tent over the cerebellum
a tent that lies between the occipital lobe and the cerebellum below it
dural (venous) sinuses
where blood returns to the venous system
they don’t have any valves, so blood can flow in any direction
lined with endothelium, so are smooth, but don’t have any smooth muscle
eventually drain toward the base of the skull
drain into the inferior jugular vein —> go back into your heart
superior sagital sinus
inferior sagital sunus
straight sinus
where the falx and tentorium come together
transverse sinus
on the outer edge of the tentorium cerebelli
goes transversely around the back
confluens
where the transverse and the straight come together with the superior sagittal and the inferior sagittal
